This city started in 1894 as a small farming community, but over the years it has attracted so many sims that it is beginning to change into a large city. Atkinson was named after the most successful farmer, who became the mayor after the town started to gain a business interest. His farm still exists to the north, but his family now runs it and he lives in the city itself. Atkinson has several notable buildings such as a Geyser Park, a City Hall, a Mayor's Home, a statue, a county courthouse, the Bradbury Building (the first medium-density commercial building), and a city prison. The town is mostly low-density, though small parts of the downtown area have been re-zoned medium density, with the occasional medium density commercial zones scattered througout the city. The layout of the city is very logical and based on a grid system, though despite this there are still traffic problems related to the town's popularity. There is still alot of land available for growth. The northern sections of the landscape are mostly farms though some propane companies have been attempting to run the farmers out with limited success, due to Atkinson's support of the farmers. The town itself exists to the south across the main river, and is almost entirely low density residential. The area is zoned to allow for corner shops and gas stations, and even malls and shopping centers mixed in with the neighborhoods. There are several large areas of land reserved for landfills to the southwest, and this is where the prison is located. The city has a minor problem with pollution, due to the large number of power plants in the area. Four coal-burning plants are located near the prison in a cluster and another coal plant sits next to an oil plant in the city's ghetto area on the east border. The four clustered coal plants were created as a means of generating extra revenue by selling power to neighboring communities. It will be a challenge to get this huge initial investment to really pay off in the end, but if it works, there will be plenty of power for the entire region and plenty of cash in the city's treasury. Atkinson is a wealthy town, and there is plenty of room to expand. It will be interesting to see if the town can become a full-sized city without driving the farmers out of business. Challenges in this town include: Turning the 6 total power plants into a moneymaker, using the large landfill area to generate trash dumping revenue from neighbors, preventing the polluting propane and mining companies from running the farmers out of business, and growing the town into a full-fledged city without ruining it's natural charm. You'll start the city on July 11, 1902.
